Layering her soothing, soulful voice over alternative R&B tracks, 21-year-old singer-songwriter Monét is developing her sound and growing her fan base. The young artist sprung onto the scene back in 2019 and since then has been continuing to release a stream of moving tracks. We got the chance to catch up with Monét on her journey within the music industry and her brand new track ‘No Words‘.

When asked to sum her music outside the realms of ‘genre’, Monét told us she seems her music as ‘warm’. And this description definitely reflects the artist as well as the music. She explained to us that her experience with soul touching music started many years ago as she grew up around different sounds.

I guess just hearing music around the house. my parents would play a lot of music whether that was in the car or in the house and I would always sing/dance along. I’ve always love singing. Like since I was a child so I guess it was more of a natural thing for me.’

Worldwide lockdowns have put our beloved live shows on hold. Not only that, artists in all forms have had to readjust to a completely different way of being inspired, creating and showing their art. Transitioning from live shows to live streams has been discombobulating for some, and Monét like many artists found her own difficulties.

It was hard at first because the majority of my songwriting is inspired by new experiences and you can’t experience much being at home all the time but it did push me to source my ideas from more than my own experiences which was fun.’

Each of Monét’s songs invites her listeners to relate to a set of different emotions. Although artistic influences have been few and far between over the last year and a half, Monét tries to base the majority of her music from her own personal experiences. She explained to us that while her music is still developing she is continuing to experiment with mediums such as rap and writing.

Mostly my experiences, my environment, my friends and just life itself really. I really love writing bars as much as I do writing lyrics, and at the time I wanted to write something that I could rap.’

Finally Monét explained to us where she sees herself and her music in the future. Leaving us on the edge of our seats, the flourishing singer assured us that there is much more to come.

I think as my music grows I continue to grow and vice versa plus I’m not afraid to experiment so I guess right now it looks very exciting and unpredictable!
